Combat Life Saver Course (CLC)

Welcome to the 240th Maine Regional Institute's (RTI) Combat Life Saver Course. On the battlefield, the ability of trained medical personnel to provide immediate, far forward care is limited. The combat lifesaver (CL) is a non-medical Soldier trained to provide emergency care as a secondary mission. Each squad and crew should have at least one member trained to be a CL. You have been selected to attend this course to train as a CL for your unit. This is a very fast paced course! There is one written exam at the end of the course, and there are many hands on tasks that you will train on and then test to standard. At the end of this course you will receive a completion certificate. It is your responsibility to inform your unit upon your successful completion of this course so they can document it in your unit records. You must recertify within 12 months.

Students must attend all scheduled training and successfully complete all practical exercises in order to graduate. Missing 2 or more hours of instruction will result in disenrollment. Haircuts and uniforms must meet standards of AR 670-1.

There have been major revisions to the Combat Lifesaver Course. AR 350-1, Army Training and Education, governs the Combat Lifesaver Program. This regulation supersedes AR 350-41, Training in Units. See Paragraph 4-12 of AR 350-1 for additional information on the Combat Lifesaver Program. The changes to this subcourse are consistent with the tenets of Tactical Combat Casualty Care and reflect the current thought of the Army Medical Department Center and School while conforming to printed Department of the Army doctrine as closely as currently possible.

IS0871(Combat Lifesaver Course: Student Self-Study) replaces IS0824 (Combat Lifesaver: Buddy-aid Tasks) and IS0825 (Combat Lifesaver: Medical Tasks).

IS0872 (Combat Lifesaver Course: Examinations) replaces IS0827 (Combat Lifesaver Examination Booklet)

The effective date of this change is 9 August 2005. Previously certified Combat Lifesavers will need to be trained on the new tasks when they are due for their annual refresher training or prior to deployment.
