Counterdrug Task Force
Stay on Track / 6-Week or 2-Day
MISSION: The Drug Demand Reduction team will facilitate the Staying on Track program in as many middle schools throughout the state as possible in order to remain committed in supporting Maine citizens as they help our young people develop the resiliency they need to lead healthy, drug free lives. All services provided by the National Guard Counterdrug DDR Program are at no cost to the agency supported.
DESCRIPTION: One of the elements of the Key National Initiative of the National Guard Counterdrug Program is an evidence-based prevention program called Stay on Track. Developed by the National Center for Prevention and Research Solutions, and provided to schools by the National Guard, Stay on Track teaches students the skills they need to make positive life choices, including the commitment to staying in school and being drug free. Stay on Track is a very interactive and dynamic classroom program delivering motivational, student-focused and teacher-friendly substance abuse education.
Following completion of Stay on Track, students will
- understand the negative health effects of drug use,
- be prepared to set short and long term goals,
- understand the techniques of effective communication,
- be prepared to respond to the outside forces attempting to influence their decisions, and
- be prepared to make the commitment to being drug free.
