Family members and friends welcome the 1136th Soldiers home after a year long deployment to Afghanistan.
The Freedom Salute Ceremony for 1136th Transportation Company, Maine Army National Guard is scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011. The ceremony will be held at the Collins Center for the Arts, University of Maine, Orono.
The 1136th Transportation Company (SECFOR) provided force protection for two of the most strategically important headquarters in Afghanistan. The detachment at the New Kabul Compound (NKC) secured the United States Forces Command, lead by General Stanley McChrystal and succeed by General David Petraeus. At Camp Eggers, the 1136th Transportation Company protected the headquarters for NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan and the Combined Security Transition Command.
The Freedom Salute Ceremony will honor 173 Soldiers and their families from the Maine Army National Guard who served in Afghanistan. This event will also honor Soldier's families, employers, and community leaders who supported the troops through their deployment.

This serves as a media invitation for the arrival of 173 Maine Army National Guard Soldiers from Afghanistan, today, March 8, between 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Avenue, Augusta.
The 1136th Transportation Company (SECFOR) provided force protection for two of the most strategically important headquarters in Afghanistan. The detachment at the New Kabul Compound (NKC) secured the United States Forces Command, lead by General Stanley McChrystal and succeed by General David Petraeus. At Camp Eggers, the 1136th Transportation Company protected the headquarters for NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan and the Combined Security Transition Command.
The 1136th Transportation Company (SECFOR) demonstrated a deep commitment during Operation Enduring Freedom guarding against Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces. The unit set itself apart by displaying superior performance during their mission to protect and defend Camp Eggers, New Kabul Compound (NKC), Camp Bala Hissar, Area 10 Safe House Complex and provide Quick Reaction Forces (QRF).
The 1136th Transportation Company is stationed in the Sanford, Bangor and Calais. In 2003, the unit deployed to Kuwait and Southern Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

CAMP EGGERS, Afghanistan - The 1136th Transportation Company, Maine Army National Guard, transitioned authority with the 1165th Military Police Company, Alabama Army National Guard, during a ceremony here Feb. 24.
The 1165th took over the responsibility of providing force protection and base security for several bases in the capital of Kabul from the 1136th, which is heading home after a year-long deployment.
"The 1136th has done an outstanding job providing support to Task Force Rushmore and the Kabul Base Cluster," said Brig. Gen. Theodore Johnson, Task Force Rushmore commander, during the ceremony. "These citizen-Soldiers provided force protection for more than 3,000 U.S and coalition servicemembers stationed throughout the KBC, and I am thankful for their support.
