Family Back to Supply Give-Away Event - August 4, 2012

JFHQ back to school give-a-way evnet.JFHQ Family Readiness Group is here to stay.  Small steps, big impact!  We
are so thrilled to report a wonderful showing at our very first FRG event.  On Saturday, August 4 we hosted a Back to School Supply Give-Away event at Camp Keyes.  Operation Homefront donated wonderful school supplies to our Military children and what a fabulous cause it was.  About 50 Families and/or Soldiers made it to our Give-Away and took home backpacks or bags full of supplies, PLUS we provided information about services and resources available to our Service and Family members who stopped to visit.  Like free tutoring at www.Tutor.com. Our event reached over 75 children with school supplies thanks to Operation Homefront and their extraordinary initiative with the Dollar Tree.

In addition, we had beautiful weather and as part of our overall event, Mr. Ron Russo from the Maine Military Museum spent time giving tours and explaining our Military history to anyone who visited the Maine Military Museum.  Always FREE of charge.

Of course, this couldn't have all happened without the large amount of work from SFC Amber Silvermane, SSG Michael Collins, Michelle Darveau, Mr. Ron Russo and the JFHQ-FRG. We met some great Soldiers and Families on this gorgeous summer day and hope to see everyone again in the future.

Remember, the FRG welcomes any family or friends of the Maine National Guard to Volunteer at events like this one.  The FRG can be reached at jfhq-frg@hotmail.com .
