Becoming a Warrant Officer

Minimum Requirements

These are the basic requirements for anyone wishing to become a warrant officer in the Maine National Guard.

  • Be a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization.
  • Be a high school graduate or pass the GED.
  • Must have proficiency in the English language.
  • Score 110 or above on the General Technical area of the Armed Forces Vocational Apptitude Battery (ASVAB).
  • Successfully pass all events on the Army Physical Fitness Test and meet height/weight standards.
  • Must possess a valid final or interim secret clearance (some specialties may require higher).

Aviator Warrants

  • Be a current MENG member in good standing.
  • Must have an approved flight application by age 33.
  • Score a minimum of 90 on the Alternate Flight Aptitude Selection Test (AFAST).
  • Successfully pass a Class 1A flight physical.

Technical Warrants

  • Between the ages of 18 and 46.
  • Most specialties require a minimum grade of E-5, though specific requirements vary.
  • Qualify in the correct feeder MOS.
